~ Fiesta Fever ~

Oh My!! Here it is MAY and I never posted those Fiesta Bowl pictures!!! Facebook is robbing my Blog!! I can NOT move forward until I try to catch up just a little bit....

As Promised Way Back Then:

The Opening Ceremonies were breathtaking!!! The speck that you see flying over the flag was an Eagle that had been trained to fly across the field. This with the Star Spangled Banner playing was absolutely beautiful!!!

Our orange jerseys definitely prevailed in this awesome stadium!

Ah yes.... it was a win!!! We were giddy and exhausted when it was over!!!

We had such a great time attending this event with our oldest and dearest friends. Thank you Mike and Gloria for asking us to join you in such a FUN weekend!!!

~ A New Decade ~

I've been looking back through this blog and wondering where did all of this come from? The "First" blog was written in June of 2006. It just kind of plugs right on along!! How long will I keep doing this and why? I've never been good about keeping a journal. I've had one for awhile but I haven't entered anything in the longest time. I guess this is it. So here I am, still "Just Trudy".

There is always great anticipation with what a new year might bring. There are those usual resolutions that can be made. Then there's the resolving part!! Will I make it happen this year? How will I make it "STICK" this time? Yes, I want to stay healthy!! Yes, I want to lose weight! Yes, I want to get organized! But will I? Can I? Shall I? This HAS to be the year!! It's just NOT going to get any easier!

So with no apologies, I shall begin to begin.

We had a fun first week of the year so far!!! We went to the Fiesta Bowl in Arizona and watched our Boise State Broncos BEAT Texas Christian Horned Frogs!!! AWESOME!!! When we exchange more pictures with our friends I will post a new blog to commemorate!!!! :)

More to Come......

~ My Aunt Leta ~

January 2000

I woke up in the middle of the night and it was all I could do to NOT get up and start this blog. Now where do I begin?

What a wonderful lady. Being around her has always brought me peace. Aunt Leta and my Mom were identical twins. I lost my Mom 11 years ago. I know it sounds odd, but when I've been around Aunt Leta these last few years I've felt like maybe Mom wasn't that far away.

It's been a very hard last few years for her. The last time I saw her I looked into her eyes and wasn't really sure if she knew it was me..... but in my heart I think she did. She was finally able to make her journey this weekend. She passed away on Saturday morning.

Aunt Leta was my first employer. I learned so much! Being a kid in the 60's and 70's was fun but what can you do for money? I vacuumed! I got to go to Aunt Leta's and vacuum her house. I learned that to do a good job you have to vacuum behind things and even under them. I don't even remember how much I got paid.... but it was enough to go to OKay's market for a soda and a candy bar. She only lived 2 1/2 blocks away and it was easy to get there on my bicycle.

When I came home from school, if Mom wasn't home I always called Aunt Leta's. If Mom wasn't there Aunt Leta usually knew where she was :)

I remember getting in trouble once for being especially naughty. I remember crying in my room. It wasn't just, "Don't tell Daddy", it was "Don't tell Aunt Leta"!

My cousin Sandy did ironing for my Mom. I remember watching her iron and it gave me the opportunity to offer that as another one of my money making ventures. I earned 5 cents a shirt.

Aunt Leta took me school clothes shopping once. It was after the summer when my Mom had been really ill. I remember coming home with some fun clothes. There was one very cute corduroy skirt that raised Mom's eyebrows just a little. It came "above" my knees. Thinking back on that period of time makes me feel so grateful that she would take the time for me! She had a wonderful family of her own that she was busy with and she worked outside of her home but she was always there to help whenever she was needed.

I took a typing class in Junior High. Aunt Leta then hired me to type labels. She had her own typing business and she trusted me to go through the Idaho Falls phone book and type labels for all of the businesses as one of her projects. I was so flattered that she would let me do this. I found out later that some of the labels I typed weren't able to be used because the typewriter had uneven type. It was an old manual Royal typewriter! Yes, I'm that old. She paid me for my work anyway. I tried to give the money back and she wouldn't take it.

Of course it was fun because Grandma and Grandpa Warren lived right across the street along with the Warren cousins down the next block. By then the Gowers had moved a whole mile away..... but we still got together and frequented Aunt Leta and Uncle Harris's backyard. They had the most amazing apple trees.

We had MANY family picnics in their back yard. I remember climbing her back stairs and walking into a kitchen that always smelled wonderful. There was always something going on at the Bowmans. Last time I was with Sandy we talked in depth about how to make that potato salad!! Ahhh..... what a memory. They always had something good cooking and walking in her kitchen before ANY family get together was a treat.

If her kitchen didn't smell like food, it smelled like home permanents or hair color. The twins DID trade off on these. If it wasn't her house they stunk up it was Mom and Dad's. I laugh when I think about how many concoctions of hair colors they would come up with. Originally my Mom wanted to be blonde so that people could tell them apart. That didn't work!! It wasn't long before Aunt Leta went blonde too and now I know why. It's so much easier to cover gray, but my Mom always had a different hue. Sometimes she was strawberry and Leta was regular blonde but on a bad hair day there was purple!! Ouch!!!

I have such fun memories! Our family didn't camp, but we had a few camping trips with the Bowmans. There was a water skiing adventure with Bruce.... There were stock car races.... And even that pet monkey Cecil!! Whew..... All fun....

She passed her torch of love and service to her sons and daughter. There is nothing that they will not do to help friends or family. The energy and love that Aunt Leta had in caring for her own Mom, Grandma Warren, was mirrored to her daughter Sandy, who cared for her in their home... and then continued devotion going every day to be with her at the rest home.

Thank you for the wonderful memories and the warm love you gave. Thank you for letting us be part of your family..... With Love Forever, Trudy

(His favorite writing from Dylan Thomas)

Do not go gentle into that good night.
Old age should burn and rave, at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their works had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you , my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears. I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light

Dylan Thomas

But, best of all, he's my big brother and I love him!!

Happy Birthday Brent!!

~ The Wall ~

For lack of a better title to this blog, I'm calling this "The Wall". This is, indeed, the wall above my love seat in our family room. I've seen walls like this before. When I was a kid I remember different relatives with these formal pictures of their kids in nice frames on their wall. I didn't stop to think that those walls sometimes took 20 years to accomplish!! What a concept that 20 years ago, this wall was just a glimmer out there.

We have another wall next to our stairs that has those cute little kid pictures and family photos, but this is different...

So today I am celebrating our wall and what it means! Maybe some year there will be more on this wall. Maybe one with a beautiful dress and her dapper young man next to her..... and him with a beautiful young woman with stars in her eyes only for him.... and maybe even more....

Congratulations Stephanie!! We Love You!!!!

AND Ryan!!! It's Been a Tough Road But You Are AWESOME and we are so very proud of you too!

~Happy 18th Birthday Steph~

I've been neglecting my Blog account! I've spent a BUNCH of time of Facebook these days. It's just hard to write much meaningful dialogue there because things are posting so fast. On this day of celebration I am choosing Blogspot :)

This is probably the hardest birthday ever for ME but not her!! Graduation is coming up and then everything will just speed up for her!! There will be more to post on this later ;-)

Happy Birthday Dear Stephernoodle!!! You are my favorite number 1 girl!! We Love You!!!!

~ To Blog or Not to Blog... That Is the Question!! ~

I'm trying to let this day quietly slip by but I've pulled my blog up twice now with fingers ready. My heart is full and I just feel the need to celebrate Jeff today. I think of him often.... and miss him dearly.

This one's for you big brother..... Love, Trudy

March, 2004
At Brandie's Wedding Reception :)

This Bench Came From Mom & Dad's House.... Clear to Georgia. We were the only people to sit on it... but then that was OK. Jeff refinished it just for this reception.

And judging only by the glasses this must have been 6th and 11th grade?

Springtime, 1962
In our "Sunday School" clothes.

As my Momma's label states; But she didn't identify the "head spinning" dog, Skipper. Both of these big brothers mean the world to me. I just can't imagine what life would have been like without them.

I stayed with Jeff and Ann for a month in the summer of 1973
There were some seriously FUN pranks pulled. And yes these pants were wet, but from being squirted with ICE COLD seltzer water!! We both had birdie legs then :)

Yup..... He Soaked Me Good..... BRRRR :)

We were able to coordinate schedules around helping Dad out after Mom passed away. Then after losing Dad we determined we would need to work out a way to stay connected. Distance made it difficult but we planned our "family reunions" around ski season, and then for our last trip we met at Brent's place in New Mexico. I am so thankful that we had those last 3 years of doing this.

Taken in 2005 - Our Last Get Together...

So I know that this is NOT where he really is.... but, Georgia is beautiful and I think of this pretty setting up in the mountains. It is a beautiful place.

Life is good. It's wonderful knowing that things have been set right,
through SO much work on Anna's part.
Today I choose to celebrate!!

~ Enough Is Enough ~

Wah!!! I guess that might sum up the past month, and I'm just really sick of it all!!! I'm tired of being tired. I'm tired of being sad. I've lost way too much this past month and it's time to say, "I'm Mad as Hell and I'm Not Going To Take It Anymore!!!!"

My son lost a job..... but then he got another one! It's an even better job than the other one!!

My dear friend Ann Schwen died. It was the day before what would have been my Mom's birthday. I can't get her back, but I can ask God to pass on a message to tell her I love her and will miss her. . . till we meet again, a good message to both of them.

My cat died (three days before what would have been my Dad's birthday. This is going to sound insane.... but what are blogs for anyway? My daughter already talked me into another cat!! Yes, this looks as crazy in print as it does in my head!!! God gave us these furry creatures so that we could continue to fall in love over and over again! I could have waited a bit longer I suppose...... but..... whatever.

I'm kicking myself in the hinder yet again to get back on my horse and go. Enough of the boo hoo.... Enough of the diet sabotage!! Enough of the stinking thinking!!! Enough, enough, enough!!

So.... On a positive note.......... Let me introduce yet another member of the Wood Household Zoo.

Samson was adopted, ironically, on Friday, February 13th!! And A Beautiful Black Cat He Is! Me? Superstitious? Nah....

And the eyes are actually YELLOW. Not evil glowing green.

Scratching post on the laundry room counter for escape from dogs for awhile....

~ The Best Cat In The World: 4/1998 ~ 1/24/2009 ~

Rest In Peace Dear Sadie...

There's not much I can add to the title. She was, in fact, the best, the most beautiful, and the smartest. She never let any dog get the best of her. In fact, they often would bow down before her. Yes, it's true! I've seen it many times.

When I couldn't find her in the house, all I had to do was play the piano for her and she would appear. Her favorite music was soft classical. I'd usually look behind me and one if not both would be on their backs in the middle of the floor with their feet in the air :) The new dog, Charlie, hasn't quite figured this all out.

So this morning, two best friends whispered Goodbye before we left for the vet. And then 1/2 hour later so did we.

Chronic kidney disease was her diagnosis just yesterday. She went from 10 pounds to 6 in the blink of an eye. We could have put her through dialysis and medicine and weeks or months of more pain. Instead we let her know that we love her and that Tasha and Uncle Jeff will meet her on the other side until we get there someday.

It's raining outside and the sky is so gray, but the sun will be back hopefully soon.

Love those little furry kids!!!

~ Introducing.... Charlie ~

Or should the intro say..... "I must be crazy!"

It's So Embarrassing! They're Making Me Wear Pink!! I Didn't Know That This Would Happen If I Chewed Up The Blue Collar!

I Guess It Matches My Pink Eyes and Nose...

Stephanie Thought A Bath Would Be Nice...

What a weird week at the Wood house we've had!! I finally came out of my Pug frenzy from last month. I thought that Pugs were so cute and adorable. I even made some phone calls thinking that a Pug would be such a fun play companion for Cosmo. I took Cosmo to a home here in the neighborhood that had two Pugs. What an awesome and eye opening experience! They would NOT stop barking at him. He hid behind my legs and shook. It was a shrill and nasty little sound. I knew I was cured.

I finally realized that having two dogs was a crazy and insane idea. Yes others had done it and were doing fine. My friend Vicki's dogs play so well with each other but that was just fine. What was I thinking anyway? Besides, we are going to be empty nesters soon. Why should I refill it with dogs? AND THEN........

Stephanie's friend, Meghan, comes over with Charlie. He's a White Boxer. Her father is making her get rid of him because it seems that he likes the neighbor's chickens a little too much, which I find amazing because he is terrified of my cat. According to Meghan, it was either the Humane Society or a bullet. (Yes, he's serious!)

So tomorrow Charlie will become a Charl-it. And hopefully he will follow Stephanie to college this fall? (yeah right...)

Can It Get Any Better Than This Charlie?
